Introduction


Islam is a monotheistic and Abrahamic religion. Hazrat Muhammad Sahab is the founder of this religion in 600 AD. He is considered as the last prophet of God. Islam believes that God is one, incomparable. The holiest book is Quran which contains the teachings of Prophet Muhammad. Adam, Abraham, Moses etc are also considered as the prophets. On a religious platform, Islam means "voluntary submission to God". God is termed or called as Allah .

It is said that the verses of the Quran were revealed to Prophet Muhammad by God through archangel Gabriel. The revealations was not made in one time or occasion but on many occasion between 610 AD till 632 AD. These were mostly verbal but were also written by Prophet Muhammad companions. The verses or Ayats as they are called were first revealed in Mecca and those were mostly of ethical and spritual nature. After that when they were revealed in Medina, those were of social and moral nature . Islam believes in five basic acts to be performed by a Muslim. They are 1. Shahadah. 2.Salat i.e. daily prayers. 3.Zakat.4. Fasting in the month of Ramadan. 5. Hajj or pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in a life time if he or she is able to do.

Islam religion has two main sects, Shia and Sunni. Islamic law is called Shariyat which constitutes a system of duties for the followers. Muslim celebrate Eid-ul-fitr which marks the ending of fasting in the month of Ramadan, and Idul Adha which coincides with the Hajj. Goat, sheep are sacrificed on the occasion of Idul Adha, Muharram and Mawlid al Nabi which is the birth day of Prophet Muhammad.
